Before We All Return to Cave-Dwelling Again..

The idea before Lent was that I had planned on writing to this blog instead of writing long-hand in my journal. But a funny thing happened on the way to the Kingdom.. Firstly, I managed to pick-up a whole bunch of matching spiral hardback notebooks at half price. Secondly, I’ve put volume and page numbers on them. And thirdly; well, I just find writing long-hand a lot more inspirational. And it’s FUN going low-tech!

So, next, I was looking for a small manual typewriter. And my local charity shop/goodwill finally came up trumps, so I am now the proud owner of a Royal 200 from, I believe, the late ’60s in perfect working order and a fine ribbon.

It has some amazing marvels! Consider these features: (1) instantaneous print-out in two colours, (2) guaranteed unhackable, (3) virus free, (4) never needs upgrades, (4) never crashes, (5) NO eye-strain viewing screen to squint at, and — wait for it – (6) she uses zero electricity.. so I can still keep writing when all the world’s computing systems go to the wall and we return to the caves.

However, if I want to tell the great wide world – and you – of this marvelous discovery of mine, then I really need the Web, a keyboard and a PC. So, that’s why – after the great silence – I have returned to update my blog. At least before retreating to a candle-lit desert cave like a monk.

I'm a limping follower of Jesus on the earthy side of heaven. As a recycled Californian Jesus Freak from the 1970s, I've evangelized, pastored and served, and my journey has led me to the sacramental presence of Our Lord within the Catholic tradition. I teach literacy to adults in the UK and sometimes overseas, and my on-line projects currently include managing the D. H. Ruffle Memorial Library which offers over 100 Christian books as FREE pdf downloads. I juggle a personal blog or two in my spare time. I'm here to serve and encourage the People of God whoever you are, wherever you are and whatever your background.

  1. What you going to do about typewriter ribbons John? Better store up lots of ink and a re-inking mechanism – if it exists.
